Grays Chapel Elementary School/Principal

Born: Asheboro, NC

Year joined the Randolph County School System: 2001

Education: B.A. Degree in Psychology, East Carolina University; M.A. Ed. In School Counseling, East Carolina University; Administrative Add-on Degree, High Point University

Hobbies/Interests: Family, yard work, running, cycling, participating/watching most sports, especially college basketball

Favorite thing about the Randolph County School System: I enjoy developing and growing the relationships with the students, staff, and families in our school community in which I work. The people in Randolph County are very genuine, caring, knowledgeable, and eager to help others. I find that very invigorating and motivates me to do my best each day.

Working with and helping others, particularly young people, has been an important part of my life both recreationally and professionally. Growing up in my neighborhood in Asheboro, I was always trying to help the younger kids. I would help them with their homework as well as help them learn and develop their skills in various athletic endeavors. My interest in helping others followed me to East Carolina University where I majored in Psychology as an undergraduate and then went on and got my masters degree in Counseling Education in 1983. 

In 2001, after owning and running my own business for 15 years, I was given an opportunity to get back into a career that involved working with youth at Southwest Randolph Middle School (SWRMS) as an Exceptional Education Teacher and a year later as a Guidance Counselor at SWRMS. I loved being a Guidance Counselor and helping administrators, staff and students in any way I could to help them achieve success. I spent the next eight years at SWRMS as a Guidance Counselor.

I enrolled in the Master’s in Administration program at High Point University in January, 2008. In October of 2008, I was hired as the Assistant Principal at Southeastern Randolph Middle school (SERMS) and served there until 2010 where I was hired as the Principal at Farmer Elementary and served there for seven years (2010-2017).

My strongest assets are communication, compassion, organization, planning, persistence and I have a strong work ethic that has helped me throughout my working career.

Through my professional and volunteer opportunities, I look forward to more situations where I can touch and move student’s lives in a positive direction. I find working with young people very rewarding. It is my continued goal to support the great staff at Grays Chapel and enhance the strong academic curriculum here for our students. Our ultimate goal is to maximize the student learning experience here at Grays Chapel through their academic learning, culturue exposure and social development.
