Grays Chapel Third Grader Honored by Sheriff’s Office for Heartfelt Community Service"

Congratulations to Branson Whitaker, a third grader at Grays Chapel Elementary, on being a nominee in July for the “Doing Good in Your Neighborhood” program organized by the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office. Today, he was awarded a certificate from the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office and a “summons” to Chick-fil-A of Asheboro for doing good work in the community. Branson was born with congenital heart disease, and in March 20, 2025, he had his third open heart surgery at Duke university Hospital. The nomination form stated that while there he was able to visit the “treasure box,” but he saw that it had very few items to choose from. After learning that the box was stocked with items from donations, he decided to begin collecting items to restock the “treasure box.” He has been collecting donations since April 20, 2025. On July 18, 2025, he was able to take the collection and fill the “treasure box.” He also took and gave “Jesus Loves Me” bracelets to other children and he also gave the nurses Philippians 4:13 bracelets. The person nominating Branson said that “he is a light to all who encounter him and has a huge, giving heart. Branson is the definition of doing good in our neighborhood.” Way to go, Branson! Your school, community, and the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office appreciate your thoughtfulness and willingness to help others.
