Grays Chapel Elementary third graders have been busy building their reading skills through their Being a Reader program! During a week of focused instruction, students learned how to select books that match their reading abilities and interests. They also practiced building reading stamina while learning to pause and think about what they read. Students are developing the habits of strong readers, learning that independent reading is more than simply looking at words on a page—it is about understanding, thinking, and connecting with the text. Now, GC students are putting those skills into action! Across all third-grade classrooms, students are enjoying self-selected books while practicing sustained, independent reading. It is wonderful to see them engaged in their books, building confidence, and developing a love of reading. Grays Chapel Elementary is proud of the growth their third graders are showing as they become more independent, thoughtful readers!
